Community Service – Working With Youth At Barry Farm
As you may know, we volunteer monthly at A Wider Circle in Silver Spring. Their key mission is to lift people out of poverty.
Part of their mission is to go where the needs are greatest. Therefore, A Wider Circle recently opened its arms and its doors onsite at Barry Farm in Southeast DC, a neighborhood where 100% of the residents live in deep poverty. This new project is the first of their Comprehensive Neighborhood Support (CNS) initiatives.
I received an urgent request from A Wider Circle for 10 people to volunteer at their new facility in Berry Farms housing project this Saturday, July 30th from 10:45 am – 1 pm.
Volunteers will be helping with field day activities which include arts and crafts, and outside games for children of the Berry Farm residents such as hula hoops, horse shoe games, some sporting activities, etc..
As a volunteer, you will be working with approximately 30 – 40 kids. Your main job will be helping set up events and keep kids engaged while they are participating. It should be a really fun event!
If any volunteers are able to bring a frisbee, football, similar toys/games, and snacks that would be helpful and much appreciated.

For volunteer safety, please wear closed toe shoes, comfy clothes, and no tank tops. Your registration also means that you understand that you are volunteering at your own risk.
